Isaac — you write that, during today’s oral arguments, “Justice Sonia Sotomayor professed not to be able to understand the distinction between federal authority and state police powers.”

I’m not sure what the word “professed” is doing in there. Possessing no conception of the limits on federal power is the core of Sotomayor’s jurisprudence, and, dare I say, precisely why she was elevated to the Supreme Court in the first place.
